“Steady State” LP out now

“Steady State” is my third album with Barnaby Oliver, part of a long association extending back to Barnaby’s “Wall of E” guitar orchestra in 2005. This album’s origin goes back to a concert we played in August 2022 at Melbourne’s Tempo Rubato. That concert was in itself the culmination of several year’s focus on developing a minimalist yet subtly expansive musical dialogue centred around my bowing of heavy aluminium bowls, with Barnaby playing various instruments including violin, bowed banjo and piano.

Playing acoustically in that space, with the 102-key Stuart & Sons grand concert piano for one piece, encouraged us to return to the venue one Sunday morning a couple of months later to record the same two pieces from our concert. We recorded them with the vision of two vinyl sides in mind, and finally they see the light of day here on “Steady State”. – Clinton Green

Out now on a limited edition of 100 copies, or available digitally on most platforms including Bandcamp

**Album launch coming up at a special Shame File Music curation of Make It Up Club on 9 December**

Yarrow cassette/digital out now

For a few years now, Allanah Stewart have been playing music together, mostly privately, with occasional live excursions (only once as a duo, and another time with Michael McNab). Our debut release YARROW is out now. There is a limited run of 30 cassettes, cradled in gorgeous packaging that has been handmade by Allanah (handsewn pouches with pressed botanicals encased inside). Now, more than half of these are already gone in pre-orders, so if you’d like one please don’t hesitate. We will also keep a handful aside for our launch gig next week (see below). Or you can purchase the digital version on Bandcamp.

And next Thursday (7 August 2025), we launch YARROW at Dimensions of Incomprehensibilities (at Merri Creek Tavern, 113 High St, Northcote). Also playing is Jessica Aszodi/Lizzy Welsh, and Tom Kazas.

Lucid Lucid Lucid Lucid Lucid Lucid

My new album is out (tomorrow, 6 September) on NCTMMRN, available digitally and on limited edition of 30 CDRs. These materials come out of the “A Conduit” sessions of the past year, and resemble them in some ways, but explore a few different directions.

Reflecting on these compositions, I keep coming back to the idea of “subtraction”. The first two pieces in particular began with much more material involved compositionally; much of which was eventually stripped away, leaving very basic, minimal material. I worked with what was left; stretching it, working with the absences, seeing what I could find within. “Out of the Fog” is perhaps some sort of resolution; although it did start as a longer track that was edited down.

“A Conduit” out now (CD and digital)

A Conduit consists of three linked works honed from Green’s recent explorations of broken Walkmans playing themselves.

Loose internal speakers from the Walkmans are positioned between the spindle and play-head. The parts cling together magnetically, yet are agitated by the turning spindle, creating not-quite-regular rhythms punctuated by magnetic/electronic interference. Green gently nurtures this kinetic and sonic phenomena by changing the positioning of the Walkmans, and applying subtle EQ and effects. The musical results are accompanied by episodes of aleatorically-constructed cassette collages, processed text and turntables.

“I feel this is quite a different direction in some ways; broken Walkmans playing themselves and inviting you to (sorta) dance” – Clinton Green (on A Conduit).

Allegations of Ventriloquism – a psychodrama; an opera for Walkmans and turntable

Emucounter – an interlude; an encounter

Stopcock (alleged) – a valve; flow control; no outlet

Availabile now on Shame File Music digitally and on pro-produced CD with 4-panel sleeve housed in PVC sleeve. Limited edition of 100 copies.

Clinton Green/Ian Andrews “False Currency” out now

My new collaboration with Ian Andrews (Astasie-abasie, The Horse He’s Sick, Cut With The Kitchen Knife) is called False Currency. It’s out now on Italian label Tsss Tapes. Francisco from Tsss actually proposed this collaboration between Ian and I; he’s obviously got a good ear for these kind of things.

False Currency is available digitally via Bandcamp, and on a limited edition of 100 cassettes. For those in Australia, Shame File Music will be getting copies of the cassette in stock soon.

Ian and I will also be playing together live at Make It Up Club (Bar Open – upstairs, 317 Brunswick St, Ftizroy) on Tuesday 6 December, 2022.
